Earlier in May, authorities indicated a gradual withdrawal from using diesel and jet fuel products refined in third countries from Russian crude oil, citing the need for flexibility amid global oil supply challenges.

Chris Bryant, the Trade Minister, emphasized the significance of this timeline, stating, “The end date is a clear signal that we continue to ratchet up maximum pressure on Russia.” He further explained that the temporary license allowing imports of these fuels would be reviewed biweekly, creating the possibility that the ban could take effect sooner than planned.
The global oil market dynamics have been further complicated by recent conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran. These tensions have effectively halted trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, reducing worldwide oil availability and contributing to rising prices.
