Manhunt after prisoner escapes van in Woolwich

Authorities are currently seeking assistance from the public in locating an escaped prisoner who fled from a transport van in south-east London. The individual, Temitope Segun, 25, was being transferred from Bromley Magistrates Court to HMP Thameside when the incident occurred on Monday evening. According to the Metropolitan Police, Segun was being transported under a sentence for supplying class A drugs.

The transport was managed by private contractor Serco, which acknowledged the incident and stated that they are currently investigating the matter. One staff member sustained injuries during the event and is now recovering at home.

Segun was last seen wearing all black clothing, including a jacket, trousers, and trainers. Authorities believe he has connections to the areas of Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich. Serco, which holds a prisoner escort and custody services contract with the Ministry of Justice for the south of England, emphasized their ongoing inquiry into the situation.

Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning of the Met Police emphasized the urgency of the search: “My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun.
