Liverpool’s Local Offer for children and families with SEND is coming LIVE to St George’s Hall this June.

On Wednesday, 17 June, St George’s Hall will host an event for families, carers, and professionals involved with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), offering an opportunity to explore the extensive support available to them. The event, known as SEND Local Offer LIVE, goes beyond the usual online directories by providing a space where attendees can engage directly with service providers.

A SEND Local Offer typically serves as an online hub listing education, health, social care, and other support services tailored for young people aged 0–25 with SEND within a local area. However, SEND Local Offer LIVE brings these resources into a physical setting, enabling easier communication between families and various organisations. This year’s event features 89 different services representing health, local authority departments, support groups, activity providers, and third-sector organisations. Among the participants are Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, the Preparing for Adulthood Team, SENDIASS/Young Carers, the EHCP Assessment Team, and The Brain Charity, among others.

The event, free to attend and running from 12pm to 6pm, marks the sixth installment of SEND Local Offer LIVE. It has been organised by the Liverpool Parent Carer Forum (LivPaC), which advocates for families and children with disabilities and additional needs, in collaboration with Liverpool City Council, the NHS, and other community partners. All local authorities are mandated to maintain a Local Offer, providing up-to-date information for those supporting children and young people with SEND up to age 25. Liverpool’s Local Offer can also be accessed online through the Liverpool Family Information and SEND Directory.

Liverpool’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills, Cllr Joanne Kennedy, highlighted the importance of the event: “For so many families and carers, navigating advice around SEND can be confusing – this event is a brilliant opportunity to chat with amazing providers and services in Liverpool who can offer clear support and guidance.” She encouraged families, carers, and professionals to attend and take advantage of meeting service teams face-to-face. Donna Phipps from LivPaC added that this year’s event focuses on Preparing for Adulthood, a key priority within the Local Area’s SEND Strategy, addressing crucial areas such as Education and Employment, Independent Living, Health, and Community Inclusion. She noted that the goal of SEND Local Offer LIVE is to provide direct access to people, services, and information that support young people with SEND as they transition into adulthood: “Local Offer LIVE brings the Local Offer off the webpage and into a space where real conversations, real connections and real support can happen.”
