The final day of the Royal Cornwall Show has been cancelled due to forecasted wet and windy conditions. The event, which began on Thursday, faced a difficult decision after a detailed evaluation of the expected weather. Safety concerns for visitors and stakeholders were cited as the most important factor behind the cancellation.
A yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office forecasts wind gusts reaching between 45 and 50 mph between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM BST. This adverse weather led organisers to conclude that continuing the show would not be safe. They expressed their sincere regret over the cancellation, especially acknowledging the disappointment for those planning to attend, exhibit, or compete.
Mark Stoddart, the show secretary, described the overnight weather damage as significant. He mentioned that many trade stands had already been taken down since conditions were deemed unsafe. “Bins are starting to blow in the wind, tables, chairs are blowing over, and it’s just not a safe environment for people,” he said. While apologetic for cancelling, he stressed that it was the only viable choice due to the scale of the disruption.
