Shanice Brookes: Two charged over Sheffield bystander shooting

Authorities have charged two individuals following the fatal shooting of a woman outside a bar in Sheffield. The incident involved Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old mother, who was found with critical injuries outside the One Four One venue on West Street shortly after 2:45 AM on Monday. Despite efforts to save her, she later died in hospital.

South Yorkshire Police described Shanice as an “innocent bystander” who was simply enjoying a night out over the bank holiday when the tragedy occurred. Her occupation was noted as a charity worker, and she was a Sheffield resident. The investigation led to Jemele Rhone, aged 30, from Outram Road, who has been charged with murder. Alongside Rhone, 32-year-old Deiryen Dyce of Ellesmere Road North faces charges related to assisting an offender.

Both suspects were formally charged on Thursday evening and have since been remanded in custody. They are expected to appear in Sheffield Magistrates’ Court imminently. Additional charges against Rhone include possession of a firearm and possession of criminal property. Dyce is also charged with possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property. Separately, police confirmed that a 30-year-old man, initially arrested on Monday under suspicion of murder, has been released and is no longer considered a suspect.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles emphasized the tragic nature of the crime, stating, “Shanice was an entirely innocent bystander who should’ve been able to enjoy a night out in our city without the fear that she wouldn’t come home safely.” He further expressed sympathy for Shanice’s family, including her young son, who now face the heartbreaking reality of losing her. “They are having to grieve the unimaginable loss of their beloved daughter, friend and mother in the most tragic of circumstances,” he added
