A further evacuation has taken place in Clackmannanshire as new ground movement concerns emerged in the Dunmoss View area. This development follows the initial evacuation of residents from Benbuck View, where instability in the ground first surfaced. Clackmannanshire Council has confirmed that 30 more homes were cleared as a precautionary measure after additional signs of disturbance were detected nearby.
The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) is working in close coordination with the local council to investigate the underlying causes of the ground movement. Since the evacuation of Benbuck View residents, access to homes has been restricted; however, residents have been allowed escorted visits to retrieve personal belongings. Clackmannanshire Council’s chief executive, Nikki Bridle, reported that these recent evacuations occurred on Wednesday and emphasized that safety remains the foremost priority for all agencies involved. She stated, “The priority of all Local Resilience Partners continues to be the safety of everyone involved, and our officers remain in the local area to offer further guidance to residents during what we appreciate is a worrying time for them.”
Bridle also noted that the specialized investigations taking place, led by the MRA, are expected to be lengthy. She assured residents that updates would be provided as soon as new information becomes available, adding, “We will continue to make sure that residents can be updated with progress as soon as this information becomes available.” Meanwhile, the MRA has been actively conducting detailed engineering assessments with multiple specialist teams on site, aiming to determine the exact cause of the incident. In a statement, the MRA spokesperson acknowledged community concerns, saying, “We understand how worrying this is for the community, and we are doing everything we can to support Clackmannanshire Council and those affected and respond as quickly and safely as possible.”
Security measures have been heightened at the affected locations, with fencing erected, and police presence established to restrict unauthorized access. Essential services including water, gas, and electricity have been disconnected in the area as a safety precaution during ongoing investigations. The council has warned against speculation regarding the cause of the ground movement, indicating that several possibilities are being considered. Structural inspections, ground investigations, and monitoring through the installation of cameras and sensors are all part of the comprehensive effort to assess the situation and to plan a safe return for residents when feasible
