A former soldier has been sentenced to five years in prison following a major £2 million drug seizure triggered when a woman dropped bags of cocaine inside a police station. Paul Clark, aged 44, was apprehended after officers raided a flat within the Glasgow Harbour complex by the River Clyde on 2 February 2025.
The incident began when a woman entered Partick police office in Glasgow’s west end appearing to be under the influence. According to prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel, she deliberately dropped 11 bags onto the floor, which were later confirmed to contain cocaine. Subsequent searches of Clark’s flat at Glasgow Harbour uncovered ten taped packages of heroin along with a large sum of cash. Clark himself was arrested as he was returning home.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the bags scattered by the woman contained a total of 21 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately £1.7 million, alongside heroin with an estimated street value of £430,000. Police also found £3,805 in cash, a Cartier watch, and designer clothing within the property. Keys discovered during a search of the woman’s residence led officers to another flat at Meadowside Quay Walk, which was found unlocked and empty but contained Clark’s wallet and driving license. DNA evidence connected Clark to the drugs, and his phone contained photos and messages suggesting involvement in drug distribution.
Clark admitted to being involved in supplying both cocaine and heroin. His defense counsel, Tony Lenehan KC, informed the court that Clark’s offenses occurred after completing two separate four-year stints in the Parachute Regiment, during which he developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Lenehan described Clark’s behavior as a series of poor decisions stemming from this condition. Sentencing Clark, Judge Lord Cubie emphasized the serious societal harm caused by the illegal drug trade and noted that Clark’s role was more than passive, serving personal financial gain.
