During a murder trial at the High Court in Glasgow, a 19-year-old woman described witnessing her boyfriend’s fatal stabbing at Irvine Beach last year. Keryn Knox recounted how she had been drinking with her partner, Kayden Moy, and friends on 17 May when an attack occurred. According to the prosecution, 18-year-old Jay Stewart and a 15-year-old boy, acting alongside 18-year-old Cole Turley, chased Kayden. The pursuit led to Kayden falling before being stabbed repeatedly. Turley has admitted to the murder charge ahead of the trial, while Stewart and the younger defendant have entered a special defence claiming Turley was responsible.
Knox emotionally testified about seeing Kayden’s physical state deteriorate, describing how his body turned pale and his lips turned blue after the stabbing. She explained that, as they tried to leave, Stewart, Turley, and the 15-year-old started throwing rocks at them. Knox stated that Kayden had approached a sand dune alone where the trio was located, although Turley was not there initially. She recalled that Stewart was shouting and moving aggressively toward Kayden when Turley suddenly appeared from the left side. Knox described that Kayden spotted a blade, slipped while trying to turn around, and was then stabbed twice in the left lower side by Turley. Despite the injuries, Kayden managed to get up and run toward the beach.
At the beach, Knox described the scene as Kayden lay on the ground with a pale complexion and blue lips. Bystanders gathered around him, attempting to treat the wounds with his T-shirt. Elderly individuals assisted him until an air ambulance arrived to provide urgent care. Knox also told the court that Stewart was carrying an extendable baton and a “butcher’s-style knife,” while Turley possessed a kitchen knife with “white blotches” on its blade.
During cross-examination, Knox admitted that some of her earlier statements to police, including claims that Kayden wielded a glass bottle during the incident, were influenced by social media. She denied that Kayden had a bottle during the attack and acknowledged feeling “very emotional” when she gave her original statement. The court previously heard that Kayden and his friends belonged to the Himshie gang from East Kilbride, whereas the accused were associated with the Murray Boys gang from the same town. The trial continues before Judge Lord Scott, with Stewart and the 15-year-old also facing additional charges, including attempting to pervert the course of justice
