A tragic incident off Brighton beach has left a father engulfed in overwhelming sorrow after losing his three cherished daughters in the sea. The women have been identified by Sussex Police as Jane Adetoro, aged 36, along with Christina Walter, 32, and Rebecca Walter, 31, all originally from the Uxbridge area of London.
Emergency services responded shortly before 6 am on 13 May following reports of a person in the water near Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive. Despite their efforts, three bodies were recovered from the sea in the vicinity. Speaking about the loss, their father Joseph expressed profound grief in a statement: “No words can truly describe the pain of losing three daughters in the prime of their lives.” He went on to say, “Jane, Christina, and Becky were more than daughters to me; they were my joy, my strength, and the beautiful light that filled our family with happiness and love.”
Joseph continued to remember his daughters’ individuality and the joy they brought to their family, saying, “Each of you was unique and precious in your own special way. Your smiles brightened dark days, your laughter brought comfort, and your presence made life more meaningful. Though your time on earth was short, the impact you made will remain in our hearts forever. You were deeply loved, and you will always be deeply missed.” He also shared the emptiness left behind by their passing and the enduring nature of their love.
Meanwhile, Sussex Police have launched a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. While no signs of third-party involvement or criminal activity have been found, detectives are actively gathering evidence. Chief Superintendent Adam Hays affirmed the force’s commitment, stating they will “leave no stone unturned” in their inquiries. He acknowledged the emotional toll the incident has had on the local community but appealed for respect for the family’s privacy as they cope with their loss. Police investigations include reviewing extensive CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses in an effort to trace the last movements of the three women, who were reportedly first seen near Brighton Palace Pier before drifting towards the marina area.
