Norris Green East has recently marked a significant milestone by naming its first Chair of the Board, becoming the second area in Liverpool’s Pride in Place programme to do so. This important role has been filled by Ann-Marie Ferrigan, a teacher and active community figure deeply connected to the area.
Reflecting on her new position, Ann-Marie Ferrigan expressed a strong personal connection to Norris Green. She shared, “Having grown up in Norris Green and now working within the community, it has always been a place that is incredibly special to me.” She praised the local residents for their resilience, hard work, and the vibrant community spirit they continuously nurture. Ann-Marie also highlighted the valuable relationships she has developed with various community groups, noting their unwavering commitment to supporting families, young people, and minority groups in the neighbourhood. Her enthusiasm for enhancing and celebrating the work being done locally is evident as she looks forward to fostering further community involvement through upcoming initiatives and listening events.
Support for Ann-Marie’s appointment has been strong among local leaders. Dan Carden, the Member of Parliament for Liverpool Walton, emphasized the importance of local engagement in building strong communities, stating, “With the appointment of Ann-Marie as Chair, the Pride in Place programme is off to a fantastic start. Strong communities are built when local people have a real stake in the future of the places they call home.” Meanwhile, councillors representing Norris Green—Kevin Pilnick, Lena McCormick, and Gerard Heffey—expressed their delight in Ann-Marie’s selection. They underscored her reputation for impactful work at Monksdown School and her extensive involvement in community projects, commenting, “Ann-Marie is a leader and cares about Norris Green so much. We are lucky to have her!” They also look forward to collaborating with her and the other board members as the programme advances.
Norris Green East is one of four designated Pride in Place areas across Liverpool. Alongside it, Everton East, Fairfield West and Newsham Park, and Speke East are developing similar neighbourhood boards. Each area has been allocated a share of a £20 million investment aimed at supporting ambitious 10-year community plans. Recently, Reverend Philip Saltmarsh was named Chair of the Speke East Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board. Liverpool City Council is providing backing for the entire programme and will serve as the accountable body, working closely with all the neighbourhood boards.
