Windsor Castle police probe over allegations of sleeping on duty

An investigation has been initiated into claims that police officers assigned to protect the Royal Family at Windsor Castle were found sleeping while on duty and leaving their posts unattended. The allegations have raised concerns about the conduct of those responsible for security at the historic Berkshire site.

The Metropolitan Police’s directorate of professional standards (DPS) has responded by launching an urgent inquiry targeting several officers involved in protective duties at the castle. The force emphasized that such conduct falls short of the high expectations placed on police officers, especially those assigned to frontline security roles.

Officials have indicated that the DPS will evaluate whether the officers implicated in the allegations should be moved to restricted duties during the course of the investigation. A decision on this matter is anticipated to be made by the end of the following week.

Furthermore, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been notified about the situation. However, the IOPC has determined that the investigation will be handled locally by the Metropolitan Police service itself
