Glenn Walsh, hailing from Bishop’s Sutton, is gearing up to defend his title at the annual celebration dedicated to the watercress plant. Having already claimed the world watercress eating championship an impressive 17 times, Walsh is aiming for an 18th victory at the popular Alresford Watercress Festival held in Hampshire, which also marks the beginning of the UK’s watercress season.

Alresford’s historical significance lies in its role as the heart of the UK’s watercress industry since 1865, when the railway connection to the town allowed fresh watercress to reach markets such as Covent Garden, earning it the title of the country’s watercress capital
