A man was hospitalized after being stabbed in both legs during an assault that took place in west Belfast. The incident occurred in the early hours on Lenadoon Avenue, where emergency services, including police and ambulance crews, arrived following reports of the attack.
The police were alerted at approximately 03:05 BST on Saturday about an assault involving several men targeting the victim. Subsequently, three suspects, aged 42, 33, and 31, were detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. The injured man was promptly given medical attention at the scene before being transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital for further treatment.
Órlaithí Flynn, a Sinn Féin MLA, commended the police officers present for their swift and skilled response. She noted, “Thankfully they were able to provide very high-level first aid treatment to the young man and to the wounds he suffered in both of his legs.” Flynn emphasized that without their intervention, the outcome could have been far worse, suggesting that their actions may have saved the young man’s life.
Flynn also reflected on the impact of the attack on the local community of Lenadoon, describing it as “a very settled, tight-knit community” that has been left “shocked and saddened by the incident.” She expressed her sincere wishes for the victim’s quick recovery as he continues to receive care at the hospital
