Liverpool City Council has marked a new chapter in the city’s market services with the relaunch of its wholesale market, now known as Wholesale Market Liverpool. This significant event took place on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, and was officially opened by Cllr Barbara Murray, in one of her final acts as Lord Mayor of Liverpool.
During the reopening celebration, Cllr Murray was accompanied by Tommy Magee, president of the Liverpool Wholesale Fresh Produce Association, to reveal a carefully restored historic plaque. This board honors all the past presidents of the Liverpool Wholesale Fruit, Vegetable, and Flowers Traders’ Association dating back to 1909, highlighting the market’s longstanding heritage.
Wholesale Market Liverpool hosts a diverse range of wholesale goods, including fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, related sundries, and event supplies. The market brings together some of the leading local and national wholesalers, all conveniently situated at the Electric Avenue location, which benefits from excellent transport links to the M57 and surrounding areas.
Operating since 1859, the market has moved locations several times before settling in its current home. It welcomes both trade buyers and the general public, with hours from 4am to 12pm on weekdays and 4am to 9am on Saturdays. As opening times for individual wholesalers can vary, visitors are advised to check the official Liverpool City Council website for the latest information before planning their visit
