This week, a historic milestone was reached when Cllr William Shortall was officially sworn in as Lord Mayor at Liverpool Town Hall on Wednesday, 13 May. He is the first wheelchair user in the 816-year history of Liverpool to assume this office, symbolizing the city’s growing embrace of diversity and inclusion. A lifelong Liverpudlian, Cllr Shortall has dedicated many years to public service and has been an advocate for improved accessibility for disabled individuals, including his involvement with the Corporate Access Forum. Supporting him in his mayoral duties will be the Lady Mayoress, Marie, alongside their daughters, Melissa and Laura, who will serve as consorts. Over the course of his term, the Lord Mayor aims to highlight the efforts of people and organizations working to make Liverpool a more accessible and welcoming city for all.
