Singer Bonnie Tyler is currently in an induced coma to support her recovery following emergency intestinal surgery, according to a spokesperson. The 74-year-old artist, originally from Skewen, Wales, underwent the urgent operation at a hospital near Faro, Portugal, earlier this week.

Her representative provided an update on Tyler’s condition on Thursday evening, stating, “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery.” They also requested privacy for the singer and her family during this challenging period and assured the public that further information will be shared when possible.

Born Gaynor Hopkins, Bonnie Tyler grew up in a council house in Neath. Her music career began in Swansea, where she was discovered by talent scout Roger Bell. She released her debut single, *Lost in France*, in 1977, before achieving international fame with the 1983 hit *Total Eclipse of the Heart*. This iconic song reached number one in the UK for two weeks and topped the US charts for four weeks.
