Boy killed by falling tree in Stafford was playing with friends, family say

A tragic incident occurred in Stafford on Saturday evening when Brodan Dubickas, a teenage boy, was fatally struck by a falling tree while playing in a park with his friends. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and an air ambulance, were called to Holmcroft Road shortly before 18:30 BST, but despite their efforts, Brodan was pronounced dead at the scene. The loss has deeply affected his family and the local community.

Brodan’s family described him as someone who “lit up a room” and expressed their immense grief in a statement issued through Staffordshire Police. He was passionate about playing pool competitively, often participating in matches four nights a week with teams such as Luck Penny and Staffordshire Bull A. He was also actively involved in football, playing for Stafford Falcons and refereeing at weekends. The family emphasized his role as a “wonderful” older brother to three siblings, always supportive and caring.

Numerous tributes have poured in to honor Brodan’s memory, reflecting the significant impact he had on those around him. His former primary school, Tillington Manor Primary, remembered him as “a special young man” who was “kind-hearted, respectful and full of warmth.” Though he had moved on to Sir Graham Balfour School as a Year 10 student, the primary school community pledged to ensure he “always remain a valued part” of their family, with plans to commemorate him in the future. Head teacher Kelly Brockhurst spoke of his curiosity, determination, and gentle nature, and expressed sorrow over the loss of a promising life.

In addition to the heartfelt condolences from family, friends, and schools, sporting groups have paid their respects. Football 4 Macclesfield held a minute’s silence before the Macclesfield FC U13s Summer Cup in his honor, while Stafford Rangers FC described the death as “heartbreaking.” The Stafford & District Sunday Football League also announced a one-minute silence before their matches on Sunday. A fundraising page set up to support Brodan’s family has raised over £20,000, highlighting the collective desire to help those left behind by this profound tragedy
