A fire erupted at the Pink Punters LGBT+ nightclub located in the Bletchley area of Milton Keynes early on Sunday morning, causing extensive damage to the venue. The incident occurred around 02:00 BST and prompted an immediate response from emergency services. According to police, the fire appears to have started accidentally, with no evidence pointing towards deliberate criminal activity.
Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) conducted a joint investigation into the cause of the blaze. After their thorough inquiry, the authorities confirmed that there was no sign of arson. A 51-year-old man who was initially arrested on suspicion of arson has been cleared of any involvement in the incident.
Supt Emma Baillie of Thames Valley Police expressed gratitude to the local community for their assistance during the investigation. She acknowledged the concerns such an event might raise while reassuring residents about the outcome of the inquiry. “We understand that an incident like this can be concerning for the local community, but I want to reassure people that following a thorough joint investigation with BFRS, we have found no evidence of any criminality,” Baillie stated.
She also praised the Pink Punters staff for their swift and efficient response in evacuating everyone safely. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. In the aftermath, demolition work has begun at the site. Watling Street, which had been closed due to the fire, was reopened to traffic on Thursday afternoon
