Ross Davidson, who performed under the stage name Ross Wild and briefly sang with the 1980s band Spandau Ballet in 2018, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences. The 37-year-old, originally from Aberdeen and living in Finchley, north London, faced convictions including rape and attempted rape in two separate trials held at Wood Green Crown Court.
The charges against Davidson encompass a disturbing pattern of behaviour that spanned from 2013 to 2019, during which he recorded himself sexually assaulting six women, some of whom were asleep at the time. The court heard how he exploited their vulnerability, with prosecutor Richard Hearnden explaining that the women were “in such a deep sleep that they could not be disturbed” when the assaults took place. Davidson was convicted in July 2024 of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and voyeurism against four women. In a trial earlier this year, he was additionally found guilty of raping a woman in London in 2015, as well as attempting to rape and assault another woman in Thailand in late 2019. He also pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism.
Throughout the proceedings, evidence emerged revealing Davidson’s disturbing mindset, including his belief that he could have “sex on demand” and his self-description as “sex positive.” The judge, John Dodd KC, the Recorder of Haringey, condemned Davidson’s conduct, stating: “For a period of six years and at a time when your stage and musical career was fast developing, and you were seen by many as a charismatic artist, you were also behaving to women in a wholly disgraceful manner.” The judge emphasized that Davidson had “abused” the trust placed in him and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register for life as well as subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
During sentencing, five of the victims were present in court, three of whom quietly observed the judge’s remarks. One victim reflected after the verdict, saying, “Seeing Ross accountable is an important moment for me, and I hope it encourages others who have experienced something similar to feel able to speak up and seek support.” Another added, “Speaking out about sexual violence is not easy. It can feel overwhelming, frightening, and at times isolating. However, I hope that by coming forward, I have shown that it is possible to be heard and that what happened matters.” Detective Constable Kamila Kedadrova highlighted the broader context, stating that the Metropolitan Police had “more than tripled arrests and charges for rape and serious sexual offences” and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to achieving justice for victims regardless of when offences occurred
