King awarded Blue Peter Green badge for environmental work

King Charles was recently honoured with a Blue Peter Green Badge in recognition of his significant contributions to environmental causes. The presentation took place at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, where the King’s personal dedication to nature and sustainability, particularly through The King’s Foundation, was acknowledged.

In addition to receiving the badge, King Charles also placed a Blue Peter badge into the foundation’s time capsule to mark its 35th anniversary. This time capsule will remain buried at the estate for a century, intended to be opened by future generations. The badge was presented to him by Blue Peter presenter Joel Mawhinney alongside Liza Kengran, the foundation’s sustainable food systems curriculum manager.

During the visit, the King engaged with primary school pupils participating in the Growing Together, Cooking Together programme, which involves potting activities as part of its sustainability education. Furthermore, secondary school students from Auchenharvie Academy in Stevenston were recognised for their efforts in promoting sustainability, highlighting the ongoing commitment of young people to environmental causes.

Charles has been a consistent advocate for reducing food waste, having supported the Coronation Food Project launched in 2023. This initiative works to redistribute surplus food to vulnerable communities in Merseyside, Birmingham, and London. Earlier in 2023, both the King and Queen were awarded Gold Blue Peter badges in Liverpool, with Charles being honoured for his environmental work and youth support through The King’s Trust, and the Queen for her promotion of literacy and reading
