An 82-year-old woman was found fatally injured on a street in Glasgow over the weekend, leading to the arrest of a man connected to the incident. The elderly woman, Elizabeth Colligan, was discovered on Cardowan Road in the Carntyne district at around 4 a.m. on Saturday and subsequently died at the scene.

Police identified a 30-year-old man, believed by BBC Scotland to be her grandson, Grant McKinnon, who was detained in the Glasgow area as investigations continue. Earlier, detectives had made a renewed plea for public information regarding McKinnon’s whereabouts, suggesting he holds crucial details about Elizabeth’s death.

Images circulating on social media showed several police officers escorting a man near Cardowan Road, placing him into a police vehicle. Meanwhile, the area remained cordoned off as officials conducted their inquiries.

Elizabeth Colligan, affectionately known as Betty by locals and recognized for her role as a lollipop lady, was pronounced dead at the location by emergency responders. Residents and friends from the neighborhood remembered her warmly, describing her as a “nice wee lady.
