A tragic incident in Essex has led to the death of 19-year-old Jamie-Lea Biscoe, who suffered fatal injuries inflicted by her family dog. The young woman was discovered by her father on 10 April at their residence in Leaden Roding, near Great Dunmow, with severe trauma to her neck believed to be caused by the animal. This heartbreaking case was brought before the Essex Coroner’s Court.
Essex Senior Coroner Lincoln Brookes opened the inquest by expressing his condolences to Jamie-Lea’s family and referring to the situation as a “truly tragic loss of life.” The court was informed that paramedics had attended the family home on Long Hide road but were unable to save her. A post-mortem confirmed that the fatal injuries to her neck were the cause of death.
The dog involved, thought to be a lurcher-cross breed, was taken into police custody while authorities conducted tests to identify its exact breed. Essex Police have not yet confirmed whether the dog has been euthanized. Moreover, a 37-year-old man from Great Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of having control over a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused injury resulting in death. He has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
During the coroner’s hearing, proceedings were paused at the request of Essex Police to allow their inquiry to proceed without interruption.
