An arson attack on a business in Hendon, located in north-west London, is currently under investigation by counter-terrorism police. According to the Metropolitan Police, a man was observed approaching a group of shops carrying a plastic bag that contained three bottles filled with a liquid substance.
The individual placed the bag beside the building and attempted to ignite the bottles, but they did not fully catch fire. He then fled the scene. The attempt caused only minor damage to the shopfront, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Authorities have clarified that the incident is not being treated as a terrorist act and is not connected to other recent occurrences in the vicinity. At this stage, no arrests have been made.
Counter-terrorism officers are also looking into other suspicious fires, including attempted arson attacks targeting a Persian language media outlet and a synagogue in Finchley, as well as a case where ambulances belonging to a Jewish charity were set on fire in Golders Green. Commander Helen Flanagan addressed the situation by stating, “At this stage last night’s arson is not being linked to other incidents in the north-west London area over the last week or last month’s arson in Golders Green but counter terrorism officers are leading due to the similarities of each attack.”
She further emphasized the determination of the police, saying, “We will be relentless in our pursuit of those responsible for this and other, similar, hateful acts against London’s communities.” Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams acknowledged the worries of residents in the area and noted that police numbers have been increased.
