Liverpool Central Library is preparing to host a complimentary event this month that will highlight the extraordinary John James Audubon book, Birds of America. This remarkable volume, recently featured in the BBC Drama Small Prophets, is recognized as one of the rarest and most valuable books globally. The library is proud to be among the few institutions that have a copy permanently displayed for the public.
Scheduled for Thursday, 30 April, the event titled An Evening with Audubon offers attendees a unique chance to delve into the fascinating history of Birds of America. Guests will learn about the book’s creation, its conservation journey, and the complex and sometimes controversial figure behind it, John James Audubon.
Participants will also be able to view a seldom-exhibited second volume from the Central Library’s extraordinary four-volume complete set, a collection that is highly rare. Additionally, the event will showcase other special collections housed within the library’s archives.
While An Evening with Audubon is a special occasion, Birds of America along with the library’s other rare items can be accessed during normal opening hours. For further details about the event and how to secure free tickets, visit the event’s official page. Information about the Central Library and its collections is also available on the Liverpool City Council website
