Man jailed for throwing girlfriend from Solihull tower block

A man from Solihull has been sentenced to five years in prison after throwing his girlfriend from the fourth floor of a tower block. Jordan Herring, aged 22, was found guilty of wounding at Birmingham Crown Court. In addition to this, he had previously been convicted for coercive and controlling behaviour directed at the same woman.

The victim, Bobbie Goodman, endured a harrowing ordeal following the incident in November 2022. She spent a month hospitalized and required the use of a wheelchair for several months afterwards. Reflecting on her recovery, she shared, “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.” Goodman also expressed the deep emotional impact the incident had on her life, stating, “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”

On the night of the assault, emergency services were not called immediately. Instead, Herring’s mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan, made a distressed 999 call more than an hour later. During the call, she admitted, “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.” This delay in requesting help was revealed during the trial.

During court proceedings, it emerged that the couple had a “toxic” relationship, with an argument about infidelity sparking the attack. Herring, who lives on Lark Meadow Drive, was handed a five-year sentence encompassing the charges of wounding and coercive and controlling behaviour. Police officers praised the victim’s courage for coming forward and continue to offer her support as she recovers from the abuse
