Irish Cup: Man charged after football match disorder

A 19-year-old man has been formally charged following disturbances that took place in south Belfast after a football match. The charges brought against him include riotous behaviour, performing a provocative act, possession of fireworks or flares at a regulated match, indecent behaviour, and attempted criminal damage.

The incident resulted in injuries to nine police officers, and it was reported that a child was struck by a bottle during the disorder. Despite these events, police noted that the majority of attendees maintained peaceful conduct throughout the gathering.

Authorities also highlighted that, even though numerous warnings were issued, there was still significant provocative behaviour as well as extensive use of pyrotechnics and fireworks among some individuals. This contributed to the tense and unsafe atmosphere surrounding the event.

The accused individual is scheduled to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 May to face the allegations stemming from the post-match disorder
