Major London Euston rail disruption due across Easter weekend

Over the Easter period, passengers should expect significant disruptions to train services around London Euston station due to extensive engineering work. From Good Friday, 3 April, through to Wednesday, 8 April, Avanti trains will not run into London but will instead terminate at Milton Keynes Central. This interruption is necessary as Network Rail undertakes crucial projects, including replacing a major bridge, upgrading signalling systems, and renewing essential infrastructure.

To accommodate travelers affected by these changes, replacement bus services will operate between Milton Keynes and Bedford. From Bedford, passengers can continue their journey to London St Pancras by train. Jake Kelly from Network Rail explained the timing of the work, noting that bank holidays tend to be less busy on the railway. He emphasized that “the four-day period at Easter gives us a valuable opportunity to complete projects that simply can’t be delivered during a normal weekend.” Kelly also urged travelers to check schedules before setting out, as “passengers will see some changes.”

In addition to the work around Euston, a limited number of London Overground Lioness Line trains from Euston will run partially on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Other parts of the rail network will also face disruption; for example, services between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction will be reduced due to switch and crossing renewals. Meanwhile, on the London Underground, the Hammersmith and City line will be completely closed over the four-day Easter window. The Bakerloo line will encounter partial disruption between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone stations.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will see service suspensions as well. Between Bank and Tower Gateway, and on the route from Poplar to West India Quay, trains will not run from Good Friday until 8 April. Passengers planning to travel over the Easter weekend are advised to prepare for these changes and plan journeys accordingly to minimize inconvenience during the engineering works taking place across the capital’s transport network
