Carey Mulligan, the renowned Oscar-nominated actress, was recently honored with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by King Charles during a ceremony held at Windsor Castle. The accolade recognizes her significant contributions to the field of drama. Mulligan, widely known for her roles in acclaimed films such as *An Education*, *The Great Gatsby*, and *Drive*, received the prestigious title in acknowledgment of her outstanding work.
During the investiture event, Mulligan expressed her gratitude and humility, stating, “I feel so unbelievably lucky to get to do a job that I really, really love. To have this kind of recognition on top, is just sort of extraordinary to me.” Alongside her, several notable figures were also honored, including Hilary McGrady, director-general of the National Trust; Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, former Chief of the Defence Staff; Valerie Lolomari, a campaigner and survivor of female genital mutilation; and Jonathan Davies, the former Welsh rugby player and television presenter.
Looking ahead, the 40-year-old actress is set to star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of *The Chronicles of Narnia*, titled *Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew*, directed by Greta Gerwig. The film also features Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep. Speaking about the project at Windsor, Mulligan described working on the movie as a “dream job.” When asked about who might succeed her co-star Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, she admitted it was a challenging question, saying, “He’s got big shoes to fill. I think the thing about Daniel is that he was an extraordinary actor, I don’t think he was sort of the person you would have thought of for that part. I think the main thing is it’s just got to be someone who’s an incredible actor.”
Mulligan’s recent work includes her role in *The Ballad of Wallis Island*, a film that received a BAFTA nomination, where she appeared alongside Tim Key and Tom Basden. Over the years, she has garnered critical acclaim and multiple Oscar best actress nominations for performances in Bradley Cooper’s *Maestro* and Emerald Fennell’s *Promising Young Woman*. Her breakout success came with *An Education*, which earned her a BAFTA for Best Leading Actress in 2010 and an Oscar nomination. In addition to her film career, Mulligan, who hails from London, has also been active in television and theatre productions
