Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over 'personal conduct'

Scott Mills has parted ways with the BBC following allegations regarding his personal behavior. The broadcaster confirmed that Mills is no longer under contract and has left the organization, although they declined to comment further on individual matters.

Mills had taken over the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025. His final broadcast was on Tuesday, 24 March, ending at 09:30 GMT with the brief sign-off, “Back tomorrow.” The next morning, Gary Davies filled in, opening the show by noting he was standing in for Mills.

Lorna Clarke, the BBC’s Director of Music, addressed staff in an email, expressing that the news would come as a shock due to the long history many had with Mills across various BBC platforms, including Radio 1, 5Live, Radio 2, and television. She emphasized the importance of sharing the update promptly.

Throughout his career, the 53-year-old Mills held several prominent roles at the BBC. He joined Radio 2’s weekday lineup in 2022, taking over Steve Wright’s afternoon slot. Mills provided TV commentary for the Eurovision semi-finals on BBC One alongside Rylan in 2025 and appeared in a Comic Relief sketch related to Traitors. Before his tenure at Radio 2, he was a key figure on Radio 1 from 1998, including hosting the Official Chart from 2018 to 2022 after succeeding Greg James. His work also included a weekend show on BBC Radio 5 Live, an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, and winning the 2024 season of BBC’s Celebrity Race Across The World with his husband, Sam Vaughan. Mills was scheduled to launch a new visual podcast series tied to the Race Across The World show, which would feature weekly guests discussing the series’ events
