Steven Lyons, known as a prominent figure in gangland circles, was apprehended in Bali after arriving from Singapore, marking the latest development in an extensive investigation involving organized crime. Just days after his arrest, authorities in Dubai detained his partner, Amanda Lyons, following allegations connected to crimes purportedly committed in Spain. Reports indicate that Amanda’s capture was triggered by an Interpol red alert, intensifying the multinational law enforcement efforts surrounding the Lyons clan.
The coordinated crackdown came as part of a joint operation between Scottish and Spanish authorities targeting multiple locations including Bellshill, Glasgow, Gartcosh, Whitburn, Caldercruix, Cumbernauld, Coatbridge, Barcelona, and Malaga. This extensive sweep led to the arrest of eight suspects in Scotland alongside five more in Spain. According to sources, Spain’s Guardia Civil requested Lyons’ arrest, and he is now awaiting extradition to face charges there.
The Lyons family, rooted in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, has long been embroiled in a violent rivalry with the Glasgow-based Daniel gang spanning over two decades. Steven Lyons himself has survived targeted attacks, notably escaping a shooting in 2006 that tragically resulted in the death of his cousin, Michael Lyons. The violence persisted with the recent murders of Steven’s brother, Eddie Lyons Jr., and associate Ross Monaghan in Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, last year. Spanish authorities accuse Michael Riley, linked to the Daniel gang, of the killings, with Riley consenting to extradition to Spain for prosecution.
Authorities in Bali have described Steven Lyons as a suspected leader of an international criminal organization. Officials allege he masterminded operations involving fake companies and money laundering activities. He remains in custody at the Bali airport detention center while investigations continue. Meanwhile, Police Scotland emphasized that inquiries concerning these incidents predate the escalation of gang violence in central Scotland, which has involved numerous acts of violence including shootings and firebombings, prompting the launch of Operation Portaledge and resulting in over 60 arrests to date
