Kirsty Muir: British freestyle skier wins historic World Cup titles

Kirsty Muir has made history as the first British woman to secure World Cup titles in both freeski slopestyle and the overall park and pipe categories. At just 21 years old, the Scottish athlete demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the 2025-26 season.

In the final slopestyle event held on Saturday in Silvaplana, Switzerland, Muir finished in second place behind Swiss skier Sarah Hofflin, who took the top spot with a score of 80.07. Muir earned 75.54 points in that competition, marking her third consecutive podium finish following victories in Aspen and Tignes. This result boosted her season total to 280 points, securing her the slopestyle Crystal Globe by a 69-point margin over Canada’s Elena Gaskell.

In addition to her slopestyle success, Muir also ranked third in the big air season standings with 219 points. Her combined score of 470 points across slopestyle, big air, and halfpipe earned her the overall Crystal Globe, beating Canadian competitor Naomi Urness by 78 points. These achievements come after a challenging performance at last month’s Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, where Muir narrowly missed out on medals by finishing fourth in both slopestyle and big air.

Reflecting on her Olympic results, Muir expressed optimism and determination. The X Games champion told BBC Sport, “I am really excited to go and try and learn some new tricks. I am excited to see where I can push myself and where I can push the sport.” She added, “For the next two years I will go and do everything that I would like to do and forget about the Olympics, and then when it comes round to qualification again I will get stuck in.
