The Netflix series *Adolescence* achieved significant recognition at the 2026 Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards held in London, securing four honors. Central to the show’s success was its 16-year-old actor Owen Cooper, who earned both the breakthrough and supporting actor awards in the male categories for his portrayal of Jamie Miller, a teenage murder suspect.
Dominating the awards season, *Adolescence* also took home the accolade for best limited series. Additionally, Stephen Graham, who portrays Jamie’s father in the drama, was awarded best writer alongside Jack Thorne in the drama category. Across the evening, the BBC led with an impressive total of 16 wins, including awards for *Celebrity Traitors* in the entertainment and reality category, and *Things You Should Have Done* in scripted comedy.
Other notable winners included the BBC’s *Blue Lights* for best drama and *EastEnders* for the soap and continuing drama category. Narges Rashidi won leading actress for her role in *Prisoner 951*, a factual drama that chronicles the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s nearly six-year detention in Iran. Meanwhile, from the BBC’s *Unforgivable*, Bobby Schofield received the leading actor award for males and Anna Friel won supporting actress.
One of the special honors of the night went to Sir Michael Palin, who was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award. The ceremony, hosted by comedian Tom Allen at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, saw judges praise Owen Cooper as a “natural talent,” highlighting his “performance of phenomenal skill in a demanding, uncompromising role.” Cooper’s character, 13-year-old Jamie Miller, is arrested for the murder of a classmate in this four-part South Yorkshire-set drama. The cast of *Adolescence* has also garnered international acclaim, winning at the Emmys, Golden Globes, and Critics Choice awards, while the series holds 11 nominations for the upcoming BAFTA TV awards
