A tragic case unfolded in Seacombe, Wirral, where a father who fatally injured his three-month-old son referred to the infant as “It” during an emergency call. The incident took place at the family’s home on Percy Road on 24 November 2024. Despite extensive investigations, the couple has never provided a clear explanation for what occurred or identified who caused their son’s fatal injuries.
Medical examinations at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital revealed that Miguel, the baby, had suffered not only a fractured skull but also multiple fractures to his ribs, collarbone, arm, and leg that appeared to have developed over several weeks. Upon arrival at the hospital, Miguel was diagnosed with an irreversible brain injury. He was subsequently taken off life support on 29 November and passed away later that day.
During the trial, prosecutor Peter Wright KC told the jury that the extent and number of injuries indicated that Miguel had been subjected to ongoing physical abuse by his parents. A particularly notable detail emerged from a 999 call in which Klevi Pirjani described his son’s condition, stating that Miguel had “just stopped breathing.” The prosecutor highlighted the disturbing fact that Pirjani referred to the baby as “It,” urging jurors to consider whether this was a result of distress, a language barrier, or an indication of his attitude towards the child.
Merseyside Police released recordings from the emergency call and body camera footage showing Klevi Pirjani emotionally breaking down as officers reassured him and later arrested him. His wife, Nivalda Pirjani, who described her husband as violent, was also interviewed but did not disclose witnessing any attacks on their son. She was permitted to hold Miguel’s hand when life support was withdrawn and was heard expressing regret, saying, “I should have protected you.” Both parents were convicted in October of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and causing grievous bodily harm. Klevi Pirjani received a minimum sentence of 19 years, while Nivalda Pirjani was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison. Detective Inspector Holly Chance emphasized that the Pirjanis never explained why such severe injuries were inflicted on baby Miguel, who should have been surrounded only by love and care during his brief life
