Murder investigation launched after baby's death in Westminter

A murder inquiry has been initiated after the tragic death of an infant in Westminster. The Metropolitan Police responded to reports early in the morning regarding a serious incident involving a very young child.

At approximately 07:30 GMT, officers arrived on Horseferry Road following information that an 18-day-old baby had fallen from a height at a residential location. Despite emergency efforts, the baby did not survive the fall.

In connection with the case, a 43-year-old woman was detained at the scene on suspicion of murder. She is currently being held in police custody while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is overseeing the investigation, stated, “At this stage, we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.” She further expressed sympathy for the family, saying, “Our thoughts today are with the baby’s family. The death of an infant is always an extremely tragic occurrence, and officers are making urgent enquiries around the circumstances.
