Liza Tarbuck leaves Radio 2 Saturday show after 14 years

After 14 years of hosting, BBC Radio 2’s Liza Tarbuck has decided to step away from her Saturday night show. Tarbuck, who has been the voice of the 6pm to 8pm slot since 2012, took to Instagram to share the news with her audience, reflecting on the unique atmosphere the programme created. She described the experience by saying, “We made 2 hrs [hours] of radio feel like a private members club, that’s the stuff of dreams.”

Following her announcement, Shaun Keaveny, known for presenting The Rock Show, will temporarily take over the Saturday evening slot until the end of March. Radio 2’s Head, Helen Thomas, expressed her gratitude and admiration for Tarbuck’s contribution, stating she would be “hugely missed” and wished her success in future ventures. Thomas added, “Every Saturday evening, Liza created a truly magical, fantastical world. She was beloved by everyone at the station and all her listeners, and the door at Radio 2 will always be open for her.”

Tarbuck’s Instagram post further revealed her appreciation for the listeners, mentioning how thousands of people connected through her show as if among close friends. She wrote, “Thank you for letting me in, it’s been a privilege,” highlighting the special relationship she cultivated with her audience over the years.

In response, Keaveny paid tribute to Tarbuck’s legacy on the platform, saying, “Liza, you stand among the greats. You’re my hero shoulder to shoulder with Terry, Steve, all that lot. You did it best. I’m keeping my battered bowler hat under the table in case you grace us with another round of radio brilliance. All my love xxx.” Additionally, Radio 2 confirmed the news on Facebook, noting that Tarbuck “decided she’d like her weekends back,” signaling a well-deserved break from her long-running commitment
