Young people with SEND invited to education and employment opportunities event

Liverpool City Council and Knowsley Council have announced a free event designed to highlight education and employment opportunities for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The event targets young individuals aged 14 to 24, along with their families, focusing on options available after the age of 16 in the Liverpool and Knowsley areas.

The Supported Internship and Inclusive Learning Marketplace will be hosted by both councils and will bring together colleges and specialized services. This event aims to present a variety of learning and employment pathways that support young people in transitioning confidently into adulthood, further education, and paid work. It offers a valuable chance for families, carers, and young people themselves to engage directly with education providers, ask questions, and explore their options in a face-to-face setting.

Scheduled to take place on Thursday 26 March from 4.30pm to 7pm, the event will be held at the Adelphi Hotel, accessible via the side entrance on Brownlow Hill. Attendees are welcome to drop in without needing to pre-book. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and there will be a quiet area available for those who require it. It is important to note that anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Councillor Joanne Kennedy, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment & Skills, commented on the event: “This event is a wonderful opportunity for young people with SEND and their families to explore the many inspiring pathways available as they prepare for adulthood. Every young person deserves the chance to develop their talents, gain confidence and move towards meaningful employment or further study. By bringing together colleges, employers and specialist services under one roof, we are making it easier for families to get the information and support they need. I’m delighted that Liverpool and Knowsley are working together to provide this inclusive and welcoming event, and I would encourage as many young people and their families as possible to come along.”

Additionally, Councillor David Lonergan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, stated: “This is a fantastic event for young people, parents and carers to find out about the wide range of opportunities available for those with SEND post 16 years of age. We want to ensure that everyone has access to training, support and education that can give them the best possible start in adulthood.” The event receives funding support through the Knowsley Youth Transformation Pilot
