Deeside National Lottery winner hopes to retire and buy racehorse

A fruit and vegetable delivery driver from Deeside has put an end to his demanding early morning routine after winning a life-changing £1 million in the National Lottery. Paul Wynne, aged 58, who had been diligently playing the same two number lines for eight years, finally hit the jackpot. His lucky win allowed him to hand in his two-week notice and retire ahead of schedule.

Before this win, Paul was accustomed to waking up at 3:15 am to start work by 4 am, a schedule made even more difficult by harsh winter conditions. With eight years still left before his official retirement, he told his workplace about his good fortune, saying, “I’ll give my two weeks notice. They said my job’s there if I want it back any time, but for now I’m enjoying my retirement.” Now, freed from his daily early shifts, he looks forward to enjoying life on his own terms.

Alongside retiring early, Paul has begun to treat himself and plan ahead thoughtfully. His first purchase with the winnings was a new car, replacing his old one that was barely running. He shared, “It was absolutely on his last legs, I don’t think it would have kept going much longer so I can’t believe how well it’s worked out for me to win this money.” Additionally, he is considering buying a share in a racehorse, which would make his visits to the racecourse even more special, and is excited about making “a few well-placed bets.”

Paul also plans to take a long-awaited vacation to New York, fulfilling a lifelong dream of visiting the United States. Beyond his personal plans, he feels a deep satisfaction in being able to support his large family in a way he never could before. Reflecting on this, he said, “I’ve never been able to help out financially the way I’ve wanted to with my kids… When my son Danny got married, I wasn’t able to give him as much help as I wanted, but now I can really help them out and it makes me feel so happy.
