Taylor has served as an advisor to Welsh Labour politicians. In response, Reid stated she had never witnessed any behavior by her husband that suggested illegal activity and clarified that she was not involved in his business dealings.
The Welsh Conservatives emphasized the need for clarity and security, urging First Minister Morgan to issue a statement about the arrests. They expressed concerns about protecting Wales from becoming a vulnerability in the UK’s national security framework. However, their request was denied by the Senedd’s Presiding Officer, Llywydd Elin Jones—a decision the Conservatives labeled “extremely concerning.” Meanwhile, the Welsh government maintained a position of non-comment on the ongoing police investigation.
Details from the police reveal that the individuals were apprehended in London, Powys, and Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf. All are suspected of assisting a foreign intelligence service in violation of section three of the National Security Act, legislation introduced in 2023 to counter threats to UK interests. The Metropolitan Police have been working alongside counter-terrorism units in Wales and Scotland. Searches were conducted at an address linked to one of the suspects in Pontyclun, including a vehicle outside the property which was searched and documented by the police
