In Birmingham’s Alum Rock area, a stabbing incident near a primary school has resulted in the death of a man and injuries to a woman. The emergency response included firearms officers who arrived at Bridge Road shortly after midday following reports that a man had sustained serious injuries. A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and was held in police custody as investigations continued.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the man who died was in his twenties, while the woman’s injuries were described as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. Authorities emphasized that the situation was a contained incident and that officers were reviewing CCTV footage to understand the circumstances surrounding the attack. Det Supt James Munro expressed sympathy towards the victim’s family and acknowledged the distress experienced by the local community. He said, “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this time.” He also assured that additional police officers would be patrolling the area to provide reassurance and address concerns stemming from the incident. Police clarified the attack was not linked to terrorism.
Local schools and a nearby nursery were impacted by the event. A mother who was at the primary school at the time described how the school went into lockdown, with an early dismissal planned. Messages sent to parents confirmed that pupils were to be collected around 14:20 GMT in response to the situation on Bridge Road. Residents nearby reported being unable to return to their homes due to police cordons, with one expressing fear about walking alone after hearing of the stabbing. The West Midlands Ambulance Service responded with advanced medical support, treating the two victims before the area was secured by emergency personnel. Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward
