Jamie McEvoy, a contestant on ITV’s game show *Tipping Point*, recently shared his remarkable journey after winning a cash prize on the show. The 30-year-old from Chorley, Lancashire, had appeared on an episode filmed three years ago but broadcasted just last week, where he secured a £3,000 prize. Jamie and his wife, Hayley, were using IVF treatments to grow their family, and Jamie revealed there was “no way” they could have afforded another round of treatment without the money won from the show.
At the time of filming, Jamie and Hayley had a young son named Otis, who was about one year old, and were hopeful for another child. Jamie recalled the challenges they faced, saying, “I found out on the morning before filming that the latest had failed. At the time we didn’t think we could afford another round.” He had told the show that any winnings would go toward funding further IVF treatments so that Otis could have a sibling. The couple ended up spending a total of £30,000 on subsequent rounds before they discovered through a home pregnancy test in late 2024 that Hayley was expecting — but the surprise did not end there.
A scan three weeks after the positive test revealed that not one, but three babies were on the way. Hayley described the moment: “Obviously I was only expecting one but the nurse’s face dropped and she looked grey as she said there were three.” She explained that the medical staff responded with caution, warning about the risks of premature birth and potential defects, which made the experience emotionally difficult: “They were very negative as they were warning they could be born premature or with defects – it was very morbid. I was so happy after all the failed cycles and then it just felt like it was all taken away and I was so gutted.” Despite the high-risk nature of carrying triplets, Hayley expressed frustration that the medical professionals “put the fear of God” into her unnecessarily.
Jamie, who was away when the news was first delivered, described his reaction after finding out: “When I found out I was just shell-shocked, I don’t think I spoke for a couple of hours.” He credited Hayley’s positivity for helping them both get through the challenging period, saying, “But Hayley was so positive that she didn’t let any negativity or caution sway her,” adding that he would have struggled “if I hadn’t had someone who shone that bright throughout.” With support from a positive midwife, Hayley experienced what she describes as a “very good pregnancy for triplets.” The babies, a girl named Nova and twin boys Jasper and Billy, were born healthy on 4 June 2025.
Adjusting to life with three newborns, alongside three-year-old Otis, has been tough but rewarding. Jamie shared that the sleepless nights have been intense, with “insane nights averaging two to three hours interrupted sleep,” but the family has now “really got a handle on it.” He also praised Otis for being a wonderful older brother, stating, “he absolutely adores them and always tries to help and he’s such an amazing big brother.” Ben Shephard, host of *Tipping Point*, expressed his happiness for Jamie’s family on social media, saying he was “so so thrilled for them all” and emphasized how moments like theirs make the show “all the more special,” reflecting on the program’s long history since its start in 2012
