A 26-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder in connection with the stabbing death of a teenager, Camron Smith, who was attacked in front of his mother. The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of 1 July 2021, when several men forcibly entered the family home on Bracken Avenue in Shrublands.
Camron, aged 16 at the time, succumbed to his injuries following the intrusion. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the recent arrest took place in Croydon last Friday, and the individual remains detained as the investigation continues. This development comes after four other individuals were previously imprisoned for their involvement in the case.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend commented on the arrest, stating, “This latest arrest demonstrates our commitment to this investigation, almost five years after Camron’s death.” She emphasized that the police remain focused on delivering justice for Camron and his family.
Details revealed during the November 2025 sentencing at the Old Bailey described how the group, acting collectively, had hijacked a minicab to search for rival gang members following another stabbing earlier that evening. After forcing entry into two other residences, they broke down the door to Camron’s home. The boy, who was unarmed and in his underwear, was chased into a bedroom where he and his mother, Audrey Johnson, tried to barricade themselves inside. Johnson recounted how she stood with outstretched arms to shield Camron and attempted to seize a large “zombie knife” from one of the assailants.
