Sophie Downing set out simply to enjoy a matcha latte at her local coffee shop in Nottingham, armed with a £10 gift card. However, what should have been an ordinary purchase took an amusing twist when she was handed a receipt showing an astonishing remaining balance of over £63 quadrillion. This unexpected figure caught her attention and quickly became a memorable moment.
The unusual receipt was the result of a technical mistake at 200 Degrees, the coffee shop where Sophie was served. A spokesperson for the company explained that an administrative error led to the gift card number being incorrectly entered in place of the actual gift card value on the till system. This caused the system to generate a receipt displaying an outrageously inflated balance, far beyond the real amount on the card.
Despite the confusion, Sophie found the situation quite funny. “I’m just enjoying being the richest woman in the world on paper while it lasts,” she joked.
