Woman handed gift card receipt for £63 quadrillion in Nottingham cafe

Sophie Downing set out simply to enjoy a matcha latte at her local coffee shop in Nottingham, armed with a £10 gift card. However, what should have been an ordinary purchase took an amusing twist when she was handed a receipt showing an astonishing remaining balance of over £63 quadrillion. This unexpected figure caught her attention and quickly became a memorable moment.

The unusual receipt was the result of a technical mistake at 200 Degrees, the coffee shop where Sophie was served. A spokesperson for the company explained that an administrative error led to the gift card number being incorrectly entered in place of the actual gift card value on the till system. This caused the system to generate a receipt displaying an outrageously inflated balance, far beyond the real amount on the card.

Despite the confusion, Sophie found the situation quite funny. “I’m just enjoying being the richest woman in the world on paper while it lasts,” she joked. The staff were reportedly puzzled as well, with one barista commenting, “I’ve never seen that before,” when handing over the receipt. Sophie shared the receipt with her partner, both of them finding the error highly amusing.

Although tempted, Sophie, who runs her own business, made it clear she would not attempt to take advantage of the glitch. After paying for her latte, she treated herself to one more drink using the gift card’s genuine balance. The coffee shop later provided her with a corrected receipt reflecting the accurate card value. Sophie remarked that while she found the experience entertaining, she would have preferred to have an actual £63 quadrillion balance to spend—especially at the supermarket
