A British couple traveling through Iran on a global motorcycle journey have been sentenced to a decade in prison on espionage charges, according to their family. Lindsay and Craig Foreman were arrested by Iranian authorities in January 2025 and subsequently accused of spying—allegations the couple denies.
Currently, the Foremans are held separately in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, a facility often associated with the detention of political prisoners in Iran. The couple appeared before Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court where a judge handed down the 10-year sentence. Their family has highlighted that during a prior three-hour court hearing in October, the Foremans were not permitted to present a defense.
Lindsay’s son, Joe Bennett, expressed deep concern for their well-being, describing the 13 months they have spent in what he calls “dire” conditions surrounded by “dirt, vermin, and violence.” He emphasized the absence of any evidence presented by Iranian officials to support the espionage charges and urged the British government to take strong and immediate action to secure their release. Bennett also shared that their legal representation in Iran acknowledged that there was no legitimate case against them, but their requests for bail were consistently ignored.
The UK’s Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, condemned the prison sentence as “completely appalling and totally unjustifiable,” pledging relentless efforts to work with Iranian authorities to facilitate the couple’s safe return. She affirmed that the welfare of Lindsay and Craig Foreman remains a priority and stated that consular support will continue to be provided to them and their families.
