Reform UK names Robert Jenrick as pick for chancellor

Reform UK has revealed that Robert Jenrick will serve as their proposed chancellor should the party secure victory in the upcoming general election. Having recently left the Conservative Party to join Reform, Jenrick put forward the party’s agenda, which emphasizes restoring economic stability, cutting unnecessary spending, lowering the benefits bill, and implementing tax reductions.

In addition to Jenrick’s appointment, Suella Braverman, another former Conservative who defected recently, has been assigned responsibility for education and skills. Meanwhile, deputy leader Richard Tice has taken on a newly created role that merges business, trade, and energy policy under his portfolio.

The party’s leader, Nigel Farage, introduced this new leadership lineup as a “shadow cabinet,” positioning Reform as “the voice of opposition” against the Labour government. Traditionally, the Conservatives hold the position of official opposition, with their shadow cabinet reflecting government ministers; however, Farage highlighted Reform’s strong lead in national opinion polls since last spring as grounds to expand the party and allocate shadow roles accordingly.
