Woman admits selling fake Taylor Swift tickets for Eras Tour

Amy Rees, a 38-year-old woman from Nantymoel, Bridgend, has admitted to defrauding several individuals by selling counterfeit tickets for Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour. The total amount involved in the fraud exceeded £2,800, affecting 12 victims. The case was heard at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, where Rees faced charges related to the scam.

The fraudulent activities occurred over a period stretching from September 2023 to June 2024. Among the victims, the largest single sum lost was £623. During the court session, Rees confirmed her personal details and pleaded guilty to each of the 12 fraud charges brought against her. Despite the serious nature of the offences, her defence legal representative highlighted that she had no prior criminal record.

In light of this, the court has ordered a pre-sentence report to assist in determining the appropriate penalty. Meanwhile, Rees was released on unconditional bail, and her sentencing is scheduled for 10 March at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court. The case reflects ongoing issues with the high demand and inflated prices for Taylor Swift concert tickets, especially notable given the recent sell-out performance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, where over 67,000 fans attended.

The fraudulent ticket sales occurred in a market where genuine tickets are highly sought after, with resale prices sometimes reaching thousands of pounds. This context has made such scams particularly harmful to fans eager to attend the tour, underscoring the challenges authorities face in protecting consumers from ticket-related fraud
