Democrats ask Mandelson to cooperate with Jeffrey Epstein probe

US lawmakers have called on Lord Peter Mandelson to cooperate with a Congressional inquiry into the activities of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier accused of exploiting minors. In a formal letter addressed to Mandelson, Democratic representatives on the House Oversight Committee highlighted his “extensive social and business ties” to Epstein during his tenure as the UK’s ambassador to the United States.

Among these, messages from 2008 suggest Mandelson discussed plans for a one-off tax on bankers’ bonuses and warned Epstein in advance about a significant EU bailout aimed at stabilising the Euro. While Mandelson maintains he acted lawfully and without financial incentive, the investigation continues to probe all facets of his involvement
