The Met Office has put out yellow alerts for snow and icy conditions, specifically targeting parts of Scotland and northern England. These warnings are in effect from 16:00 GMT on Thursday until midday Friday, signaling that residents in these areas should prepare for hazardous conditions. Early in the event, precipitation that begins as rain at lower altitudes will transition to snow, especially over higher terrain.
Snowfall accumulation is anticipated mainly above 200 meters in elevation, where up to 10 centimeters of snow could settle. This blend of rain and snow is expected to move southward and clear out during the early Friday hours. Despite the clearing skies, temperatures will drop sharply, settling around three to six degrees below the norm.
