Four men have admitted their involvement in an arson attack carried out against the home of an Edinburgh-based businessman, an incident connected to an ongoing gangland feud. The attack took place on May 8th of last year, targeting vehicles parked outside the property located in Pitcairn Grove. Those who pleaded guilty include Tyler Ramage, aged 19; Robert Thomson, 18; Kenzie Gardner, 19; and Kieran Abercrombie, 32. The men set fire to a Land Rover and an Audi as part of the incident.
In addition to the Edinburgh attack, three of the men—Thomson, Gardner, and Abercrombie—also admitted to setting fire to a private hire taxi business in Glasgow earlier on the same day. Thomson and Abercrombie further pled guilty to conspiring to damage vehicles at a different property in Edinburgh. It was confirmed that the offences were aggravated due to their links with serious organised crime.
During proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Mulholland addressed the accused, warning them that they could expect severe custodial sentences because of what he described as their “sheer naked gangsterism.” The judge ordered that all four men remain in custody until their sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for March 10th. Photographs presented in court showed the charred remains of the Land Rover damaged during the attack.
The arrests emerged from Operation Portaledge, a police initiative launched to investigate an upsurge in retaliatory violence that had gained widespread attention since March of the previous year. More than 60 individuals have been detained through this operation, which centers on a violent feud that has included assaults, shootings, and firebombings across eastern and western Scotland. According to investigators, the conflict was allegedly ignited by a Scottish man based in Dubai, targeting a crime syndicate led by Mark Richardson. The violent dispute later spread to the west, where rivalries between the Daniel and Lyons families—ongoing for more than two decades—contributed to escalating hostilities. Although the tension caused widespread turmoil across Glasgow and Edinburgh in the first half of last year, recent signs indicate the feud has somewhat calmed.
During the series of attacks, several individuals connected to the Daniel family were reportedly targeted. Furthermore, on May 31, 2025, two key members of the Lyons crime group—Eddie Lyons Jr. and Ross Monaghan—were fatally shot at a bar in Spain. Police Scotland has stated they have no evidence connecting these killings to the gangland feud, despite contrary statements from a senior Spanish official.
