Council to begin improvement works on Queen’s Drive

Starting in March, Liverpool City Council will initiate highway improvement works on Queen’s Drive as part of their ongoing effort to enhance vital travel corridors within the city. This project was approved during a Cabinet meeting in December, where the Council decided to allocate funding from the Liverpool City Region’s Key Route Network Levelling Up Programme toward these necessary upgrades.

Aureos Highways has been contracted to carry out the planned improvements, which involve resurfacing the road and upgrading both the drainage system and pavements along Queen’s Drive between Dovedale Road and Mossley Hill Drive. The construction is scheduled to commence on Monday, March 23, and is expected to take roughly 18 weeks to finish.

During the initial few weeks, surveys and investigations will be conducted, resulting in lane closures and temporary traffic signals. Motorists traveling this route should anticipate delays and plan accordingly. Furthermore, the main upgrade works will necessitate temporary one-way road closures, with diversion routes to be arranged to manage traffic flow.

Once these improvements are completed, Queen’s Drive will require less frequent maintenance, thereby reducing the need for reactive roadworks in the future. Local residents and businesses potentially affected by the construction will have the opportunity to learn more and ask questions at a drop-in session to be held closer to the start of the works. Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Over time, well-used roads through the city can become worn down, meaning they need regular repair works. To prevent this from being the case, we are carrying out a number of upgrades on Queen’s Drive, including resurfacing and drainage works. By tackling these now, we will create a safer environment for road users, while also improving traffic flow. The works form part of a much bigger commitment by the Council to improve the city’s key routes.”
