Ahmad Mulakhil, a 23-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, has been convicted of abducting and raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton last July. The incident took place on 22 July when Mulakhil lured the girl to a secluded cul-de-sac and committed what was described in court as “extremely horrific sexual offences.” Mulakhil was found guilty on multiple charges at Warwick Crown Court, including rape, abduction, sexual assault, and taking an indecent video of the victim.
During the ten-day trial, the victim recounted how Mulakhil laughed while attacking her. The court also heard that Mulakhil arrived in the UK in March 2025 after crossing the Channel from France in a small boat, just four months before the assault. When the jury delivered its verdict, Mulakhil was visibly emotional, wiping away tears and blowing his nose. Judge Kristina Montgomery KC, remanding him in custody ahead of sentencing, stated that he would face a significant prison term, after which he would be subject to automatic deportation.
Mulakhil’s co-defendant, Mohammad Kabir, also an Afghan asylum seeker aged 24, was acquitted of charges including strangulation, attempted child abduction, and attempting to commit a sexual offence. The trial revealed that Mulakhil had initially pled guilty to one count of rape prior to the full trial. The victim testified that she was approached by both men in a park after playing on swings. During the attack, she told Mulakhil to stop, but he continued while laughing, ignoring her pleas.
Following the case, Warwickshire Police confirmed they adhere to national guidelines that prevent sharing information about the ethnicity or immigration status of suspects once charged. This practice has sparked political controversy, with figures such as Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch alleging a “cover-up” of details concerning the perpetrators. The attack also prompted changes to guidelines on reporting the nationality and immigration status of arrested individuals. Police and officials praised the victim’s courage, emphasizing the trauma she will carry, while the Home Office reaffirmed its commitment to tightening immigration controls and reforming the appeals system to enhance the removal of foreign criminals
